Sommelier note: Maison Paul Herpe & Fils is one of the oldest wine merchants in the Languedoc Roussillon, founded in 1919. Renaud Herpe IV Generation, and his adorable Italian wife Soili, our friend and a great sommelier, are now running the business.
Maison Paul Herpe & Fils represents a great list of small domaines and Châteaux selected from the diverse terroir here in the Languedoc and for these small domaines Soili takes care of the commercial contacts and sales in France and worldwide.
Winemaker and owner Jerome Portal has his vineyards (30ha.) around the villages of Oupia and Beaufort. This is exceptional terroir and the several vineyards are tucked away in the hillsides of the Montagne Noire, mixed in with the wild herbs of the garrigue. This Minervois is a classic blend of the usual suspects Syrah and Grenache. Packed with dark red fruit, this wine is alive in the mouth with a gastronomic touch; you definitely want to eat food with this wine! Cloves, licorice and a touch of mocha in the end. Rich and generous in the aftertaste. Yum!
