This beautiful small domaine is situated in the hillsides not far from Montpellier, in the award winning wine growing region called Montpeyroux. It has its own Cru which means special terroir! La Jasse Castel has only 12 ha. (30 acres) planted with vines, spread around 7 parcels. Each parcel with a different grape variety, varying soils and different orientation to the sun gives a different result in the fruit. This provides a broad range of blending material for the very fine winemaker, Pascale Rivière. La Pimpanela (peony in Occitan) is an excellent blend of Grenache, Syrah of 30 year old vines, Carignan of 50 year old vines, and 100 year old Cinsault grown here. Matured for 12 months in oak barrels, La Pimpanela shows deep red color with purple hues and bright reflection, delivers powerful aromas of southern French herbs and spices, black fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry), cherry and chocolate, notes of tobacco, almond and bourbon vanilla. The palate is quite rich, with a fruity flavor that dominates the acidic, slightly granular tannins. La Pimpanela can be drunk slightly chilled in summer.
