Sommelier note: Lidewij van Wilgen started a new life in 2002 when she moved from The Netherlands to the Languedoc and bought her dream domaine. The vineyards were restored, the cellar renovated and lots of energy was put into rebuilding the main house so she could live there with her 3 young daughters. Now Lidewij is one of the ‘Leading Ladies of Languedoc’ and is highly regarded as one of the top ‘Viticultrices’ (female wine makers) by Jancis Robinson and many other wine writers. Her wines are served in Michelin starred restaurants in Europe.
The land, the ‘Terroir’ speaks through Lidewij’s wines, all made from organic, hand-picked grapes. La Dame 2016 is the reference point to express the style of Mas des Dames: fruit character and concentration are words I use immediately. This wine has a silky mouth feel and smooth tannins with a nice, long after taste of spiced fruit. This wine is fine on its own by the glass but with food all the rich flavors are enhanced. Roasted veal, fine pork and even grilled beef will pair nicely with this wine. Wine Spectator granted this wine with 91 out of 100 points! Not bad.
