Sommelier notes: The Milhau Lacugue estate has been in the center of history for millenia.  It was an ancient Roman farm that originally took its name from the founder, Emilius and his estate the Villa Emilio.  It is situated on an ancient trading and travelling route, which included the Commanderie de Campagnoles and the Hospitaliers of St John of Jerusalem, who owned this estate from the 12th to the 18th century. Eventually bought by the Milhau family the estate was extremely well placed to welcome and offer sustenance to the many pilgrims travelling through the region to Compostela.

Convinced of its economic future in the development of high quality wines, since 1970 the Milhau estate has been investing in restructuring and updating thanks to the family work of Émilienne and Joseph Lacugue and their children and grandchildren. The woods, moors, vineyards and winery have come together into a fine wine estate. The Château Milhau-Lacugue now has more than 210 ha, (520 acres) including 120 hectares (290 acres) of vineyards and 10 hectares of olive trees. Thanks to its diversity of soils, Château Milhau-Lacugue now produces wines with both SAINT-CHINIAN and COTEAUX DU LANGUEDOC appellations, as well as wines from Pays d'Oc and Coteaux de Fontcaude.

Sixtine is the second name of one of the daughters of Jean Lacugue, now in charge at the Chateau. For her 20th. birthday she got her own wine in the range! What a great birthday present. Cuvée Sixtine is a free spirited wine, made without the strict rules of the Appellation. The goal was a full bodied white wine, with character and gastronomic potential. Soft white fruit in the nose and mouth, this wine starts elegant. Development shows the ‘terroir’ with minerality and profound, mouthfilling aroma. Subtle and long aftertaste reveals a light touch of oak. Splendid wine with character, just by the glass perfect with oriental dishes and seafood.
