Sommelier note: Domaine Mas Nuy is one of the little gems in the highly regarded appellation of Faugères. Tucked away in the bushy hillsides around the medieval town of Faugères, the vineyards have a particular ‘Terroir’. The soil is extraordinary with Schiste (brown and grey slate). This soil type delivers nice freshness in the wines with lots of minerality and acidity. The vineyards have some altitude as well. This keeps the wines ‘alive’ in your mouth and they won’t tire you!
Owner and winemaker Pierre Urbain, a surgeon from Brussels, grows the grapes for this lovely rosé on vineyards where, besides the slate soils, there is sparkling quartz in the vineyard, hence the name. The grapes are picked at night to preserve the cool temperature and freshness of the fruit during pressing and vinification. With a beautiful blush towards salmon pink this wine is flavorful and offers freshness like a white wine, with light red fruits (raspberry and strawberry) and juiciness in the mouth. Absolute summer wine but also great year round with hearty salads with roast chicken and grilled fish with herbs and lots of olive oil.
