This beautiful salmon pink wine, named for the winemaker’s wife, is made from organic Syrah and Grenache grapes harvested in the cool early morning and aged on the lees to give body and richness to this wine. Delicious pomegranate, strawberry and grenadine flavors drench your palate!

The wine is good as an aperitif, or with grilled meats, Asian dishes and salads.

Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
The property is 15 hectares, of which 12 are under vine, with a classic mix of Languedoc varieties (principally Grenache and Syrah). These vineyards thrive on rocky slopes with good drainage. The “Aalenien” soil of quartz, schist, granite and limestone originated in the Jurassic period and is unique to the Languedoc. The soil makes for minimal weed growth, hence little need for pesticides nor weed killers; it is good with heavy rains because the rocky limestone is very porous, yet it retains moisture at about 1 to 2 meters below the soil surface, thus keeping the vines hydrated. The region’s 300 days (about 10 months) of sunshine per year and tendency to get high winds dries out the vines.
Production Notes
Direct press, a few months on the lees for body and richness.
Winemaker Notes
Domaine de Saumarez was founded in 2004 by husband-and-wife Liz and Robin Williamson who are from New Zealand and England respectively. In the spirit of liberté d’expression, they belong to “The Outsiders,” a community of like-minded producers who celebrate the Languedoc’s diverse soil, grape varieties, climate and the freedom to make unique, non-traditional wines. Liz and Robin celebrate and nurture biodiversity in and around their vineyard, leaving the surrounding hedgerows, woodland and garrigue mostly untouched.
Food Pairing Notes
The wine is good as an aperitif, or with grilled meats, Asian dishes and salads.
