The secret of this succulent, smooth Fitou cuvée definitely comes from the age of the Carignan, Grenache and Syrah vines-most more than 100 years old! Luscious with buckets of blackberries, wild herbs, ripe black cherries and a suede leather finish. The wine has a warmth as it glides down which is beautifully balanced by the soft tannins, full body and delicious flavors.

Pair this wine with a juicy t-bone steak and chips, venison, duck, cassoulet, or a wild boar stew.

Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
To say Katie looks for vineyards no one else wants would only be a slight exageration. Most other growers in the area wouldn’t be interested in her modest twelve hectares of vines spread across vineyards in Maury (her first), Paziols and Tuchan. The sites are too small, too remote and too much hard work. She looks for low yields with high quality, and the rather poor, sloping ground that the very old, traditional vines cling to gives her just that. It means most of the work including harvesting has to be done by hand, but the results are more than worth the toil. The soils are made up of large limestone rounded stones known as ‘poudingues’ and the vineyard is sheltered from the strong north wind by tall hedgerows of box wood and olive trees.
Winemaker Notes
Winemaker Katie Jones is one of the women leading the Languedoc wine making renaissance. Every wine she creates has a distinctive personality, shaped by the old vines, the wild herbs of the garrigue, and her own care and passion. Domaine Jones started out with a winemaking philosophy to which they’ve stuck, which is to vinify the vineyards separately, rather than mixing, so they know the quality coming from each. This method requires a lot of space, so they’ve bought something that has it in abundance, an old train shed. Finished in 1905 in the village of Tuchan, it was used as overnight accommodation for the Tuchan Express, a steam train that could reach speeds of up to 5mph. Closed in 1935, this much-loved local landmark has a new lease on life as their winery. Katie’s wines gained popularity from the very first vintage release. But not everyone was happy with her success. In March 2013 vandals broke into the tanks and destroyed the whole 2012 vintage of her Grenache Gris, just days before bottling. To support her in continuing to make wine, the patrons of Naked Wines pre-ordered 30,000 bottles of her wine in just 48 hours.
