This wine is an interesting blend of Mediterranean and Continental grape varieties.  This garnet red will seduce you with lush notes of blackcurrant and raspberries. In the mouth forest strawberries, blackberries and spicy flavors deliver a perfect roundness. The wine is aged half in stainless steel tanks and half in French oak.  The mild, melted oak creates soft tannins and brings together a beautiful, easy drinking cuvée with great aromatics and flavors.

Pair this red blend with Beef Stir Fry in Hoisin Sauce or Grilled Fish with Mediterranean Ratatouille.

Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
“La Coume Lumet” is the Occitan language and means “Valley of Light,” a reference to the valley in which the vineyard is situated. 17 hectares of vines sit in the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains, between Carcassonne, a Cathar fortress town, and Limoux, the birthplace of sparkling wines. In recognition of the special terroir in the sunny South of France but in the mountain foothills so cooler evenings, this appellation allows both Continental grape varieties like Merlot and Malbec and Mediterranean grape varieties like Grenache Noir and Syrah. The valley forms a magical micro-climate, with warm, sunny days and cool evenings. The grapes thrive in an ancient glacial moraine soil, pebbles on clay-limestone soil lending natural acidity or “freshness” to the wine. The domaine is located within the largest coordinated network of protected nature reserves in the world, Natura 2000. The domaine is Terra Vitis certified, making all operations earth and human friendly.
Production Notes
The harvest is manual and in small crates, allowing the grapes to be sorted twice - once in the vineyard and once in the cellar.
Winemaker Notes
The members of the family that own this domaine are skilled in a variety of backgrounds: computer science, mathematics, psychology and most importantly oenology. This reservoir of knowledge was invaluable during the years the family spent studying and researching the region, and choosing the perfect vineyard. They formed La Coume Lumet in 2012.
Food Pairing Notes
