This is a powerful, complex wine with ripe spice and herbal garrigue aromas, followed by red cherries, and soft leather on the palate.  It has a fresh finish of minerality and rounded, velvety tannins, even a hint of black olive. Serve slightly chilled and decant for an hour before enjoying!

Pair this powerhouse with anything juicy and beefy!

Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
The domaine is situated in the foothills of the Cévennes on the famous shiste slopes of Faugères. At altitudes between 300 and 400 metres, these rocky vineyards create wines that are concentrated yet fresh, perfect for the low intervention, biodynamic and organic practices at the heart of Domaine des Trinités winemaking. The property is roughly divided by 15 hectares falling into the AOC Faugeres appellation, producing elegant and spicy wines, and the remaining 9 hectares in AOC Pézenas Coteaux de Langeudoc, where the wines are softer and more fruit forward - but still tell the story of where they are from - it is this crucial aspect that is so strong with these wines - their sense of place. This Le Portail comes from the prized schiste vineyards in Faugères shaped by the sunbaked rocky soils of the unmistakable and very definite Faugeres terroir. A herbal, spicy bouquet is followed by youthful red cherries and supple mineral character derived from the schist rich soils.
Production Notes
Hand harvested grapes. Harvesting and winemaking are timed in accordance with the lunar cycle calendar.
Winemaker Notes
Located on the prized shiste slopes of Faugères, Domaine des Trinités is an artisanal winery specializing in organic and biodynamic wines that express the unique terroir of the region. Simon Coulshaw is a highly regarded natural winemaker. His wines are celebrated by the likes of Jancis Robinson, the famous wine reviewer and scholar. A confirmed “terroirist,” Simon believes that wine quality depends on the quality of the grape which in turn relies on soil, weather, geography, and a host of additional environmental factors unique to the region. Simon’s long-time passion for wine is shared by his father, who was raised in France and schooled in the culture of wine.
