La Diva is a concentrated, elegant and supple wine with a beautiful complexity, it has all the character of a Grand Vin! The wine starts off very fruity (blueberries, blackcurrants) and opens up in your mouth revealing the finesse.  Matured lightly in neutral French oak barrels, this mellows the tannins and gives the wine a super smooth, long finish.

Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
Terre des Dames still has the same structure as it did 200 years ago: small plots on different levels, surrounded by ancient stone walls and wild garrigue. Here, of course, no pesticides or synthetic fertilizers are applied. For most of the year, a cover of natural herbs favors an ecological balance in the soil. The oldest vine is 100 years old, others around 50 – 70 years old. All grapes are harvested and sorted by hand. Certified organic (Ecocert) since 2002. The particular microclimate of this area, along with the underground springs and rivers, give freshness to the vine roots, maintained by the large barriers of trees and shrubs between the plots. The biodiversity also protects against disease. The soil is clay, limestone and flint and full of marine fossils. Despite the arid climate, underground streams beneath the estate provide irrigation to the vines.
Production Notes
Aging in 600 liter barrels, fine and discreet French oak, for twelve months. Classic and natural vinification. Alicante Henry Bouschet is part of the blend, this is a rare grape that is over 100 years old, giving only 15 hl/ha. THis is a red flesh, intense color, thick skin, resistant to rot. "An emphasis is placed on preserving their old vines as with their deep roots, they are the most resistant to global warming. The domaine's oldest vine is 100 years old and other vines are between 50 and 70 years old.
Winemaker Notes
Lidewij Van Wilgen left a high-powered career in advertising to pursue her dream of creating luscious, beautiful, organic wines. After visits to Bordeaux and the Northern Rhône, she became intrigued by what people were calling the “new world” of wine in France – the Languedoc. She found a beautiful farm house in a small valley with perfect terroir and Terre Des Dames was born. Since then, Lidewij has become one of the women leading the Languedoc wine making renaissance. Her wines have received awards from Decanter and Wine Spectator and glowing reviews from British wine maven Jancis Robinson.
Food Pairing Notes
This is definitely knife-and-fork wine so we choose grilled beef, Côte de Boeuf and nice stews with red meats (beef or lamb).
