Domaine Mas Nuy
2022 Quartz Rosé

Add To Cart
$26.99
/ 750ml

Shimmering, slightly salmon pink color, with a discreet and fresh English candy nose. Starting with the freshness of a white, then with light red fruits (raspberry and strawberry) and juiciness in the mouth and the appearance of the silky tannins of the Syrah.

An absolute summer wine but also great year round with a hearty salad with roast chicken or grilled fish with herbs and lots of olive oil.

Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
The vineyards of Domaine Mas Nuy, located in the prized appellation of Faugères, are surrounded by holm oaks, arbutus, olive trees, and aromatic and medicinal plants. Many of the vines are planted at higher altitudes which limits erosion, encourages water retention and extends the ripening period. Sea winds also supply water while quickly drying the grapes. The terroir evolved from the "Monts de Faugères" geological system, dating from the Visean age. The schist soils of brown and gray slate are some of the oldest in France. Freshness, minerality and acidity of the wine can all be attributed to these soils. The terroir also includes shale from the marine deposits of a prehistoric sea. The shale provides both drainage and humidity in the vineyard. It retains up to 40% of its volume in water and stores twice as much heat as limestone. This is why the winemakers say the grapes “ripen at night.”
Production Notes
Hand-selected, the grapes are harvested at night to preserve freshness. Slow press rosé aged in concrete tanks.
Winemaker Notes
Our friend, winemaker Pierre Urbain of Domaine Mas Nuy, completed his oenological studies and, in 2005, found his piece of heaven in the Languedoc. He purchased vineyards high on the south-facing hills of Faugères — perfect schist soil, perfect sun, and perfect vineyards for catching the drying winds of both the mountains and Mediterranean Sea. He describes his role as “birthing the wines,” allowing them to fully express the terroir and the grapes, with little or no intervention from the winemaker.
Food Pairing Notes
An absolute summer wine but also great year round with a hearty salad with roast chicken or grilled fish with herbs and lots of olive oil.
Other Notes
Ageability: Drink now or keep until early 2024. Name meaning/other facts: Pink quartz refers to the parcel where the vines grow, there is more quartz then schiste on those parcels.
