The winemaker's signature is found in this cuvée, which opts for finesse. In a high perched terroir, Merlot and Cabernet Franc deliver a fresh and lovely nose, a dynamic, generous, and greedy juice, a palette of small black fruits, fresh pepper, iris, a touch of herbiness, earthy with fresh acidity.

This lush red blend pairs perfectly with charcuterie, slow roasted lamb or garlic dishes.

Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
Malapère is the most western of the Languedoc appellations in the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains.. Its location up against the barrier of the Pyrenees provides altitude and fresh temperatures to complement the warm Mediterranean climate of the Languedoc. The domaine grows beautiful fruit from the cooler climate grape varieties Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Malbec and Cabernet Franc. The vineyards are situated on clay-limestone soil and the favorable high altitude location tempers the summer heat creating fine wines with great freshness and elegance. Cultivated in the village of Alaigne (at an altitude of 350m), these plots are about 25 years old and have clay-loam soils with gravel.
Production Notes
The harvest is done by hand and is then transported in small skips to preserve the fruit intact. The yield on these plots is about 6000 kg/ha (45-50hl/ha). They are destemmed in totality, followed by a maceration of 4 to 5 days at low temperatures (8-10°C) to preserve the fruit's aromas and color. Daily pumping over is done during the fermentation (indigenous yeasts). Then follows a soft pressing with a selection of the best juices; after eight months, the grape varieties, vinified separately in tanks, will be blended before bottling.
Winemaker Notes
Since the installation of the great-grandfather, Jean Girard, in 1928 in his native village of Alaigne, the operation has continued to evolve as each generation has contributed to building the domaine.  In 2000, Philippe Girard, the fourth generation winemaker, gave birth to the very first vintages of the “Domaine Girard” label.  He fell in love with the vine from an early age when he followed his father in the vineyards.  Heir to an exceptional terroir renowned for the strong typicity of its wines, Philippe perfects his know-how so he can reveal the best of the AOP Malepère.
Food Pairing Notes
This lush red blend pairs perfectly with charcuterie, slow roasted lamb or garlic dishes.
