Sommelier Notes: You know we are on a mission to expand your palate and delight your senses with fine wines you have never tasted. Well…get ready for this VDN (vin doux naturel) naturally sweet wine. There is no way we can convey how much we love to drink this wine. Unlike many sweet wines there is no sugar added to this wine. After the white grenache grapes are mascerated at very cool temperatures, alcoholic fermentation begins. But before all of the sugar in the grape juice is converted by yeast to alcohol, the winemaker adds high alcohol spirit, like grappa. This kills the yeast ,“mutage”, and the sugar in the juice that has not been converted to alcohol remains in the wine. Hence, naturally sweet. Then the wine spends 7 years in old oak barrels! The result is a sweet wine but so much more - literally blood oranges, candied chestnuts, stewed apricots, white chocolate, roasted nuts and a slight hint of herbs. You will find even more tasting on your own! You have time to think about it. This bottle will last one evening with friends or it will keep a lifetime! We tasted one from 1932!
