Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
The spectacular organic vineyards beneath the Pic St Loup grow on parcels typically sloped at 10% to 30%. Altitudes range from 150 to 200 meters providing cool evenings to prolong the ripening season.. The soil is formed from Cretaceous limestone shards.
Production Notes
Production includes direct-pressing of the grapes as well as cold-chilling. Fermentation spans 3 to 4 weeks. Bottling occurs in late winter.
Winemaker Notes
Domaine de L'Hortus was established in 1978 when Jean Orliac, a professor of agriculture and avid rock climber, fell “head over heels” with the region and purchased land in and around the beautiful Pic St Loup cliffs. After years spent befriending the vines and reviving 50 hectares of wooded slopes, Jean and his family bottled their first wine in 1990.
