Domaine Jones produced only 800 bottles of this rare Carignan Gris beauty. The lush aroma of fresh pear complements the smoky, herbal edge and lively palette. Winemaker Katie Jones is one of the women leading the Languedoc wine-making renaissance. She creates her distinctive wines from old vineyards and rare grape varieties.

Les Perles’s notes of fruit and garrigue make it an excellent choice for Fisherman’s Pie, oysters, mussels, roast chicken with lemon and oregano and grilled fish.

Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
This is an exceptionally rare, small Carignan Gris vineyard, which lies just outside the village of Tuchan where the Languedoc meets the Roussillon. The entire estate is only 30 acres and is planted primarily with old vines, some on very steep hillsides. An electric fence surrounds the vineyards to dissuade pesky wild boars from feasting on the ripe grapes. The arid soil is comprised of limestone and schist.
Production Notes
The winemaker, Katie Jones, vinifies each parcel of hand-harvested grapes separately so she knows exactly what she has. Her winemaking cave is located in an old steam locomotive shed. Katie has this to say about the challenges of this rare grape: “Carignan Gris is a pain in the ‘derrier’ for a winemaker as it is a very late ripener. And I mean very late – it actually ripens after all the reds and still comes in at a lower alcohol. I would imagine that this is the reason why most of it has been ripped up. In our first vintage with this grape we thought that it was never going to ripen. We finally picked it mid-October.”
Winemaker Notes
Winemaker Katie Jones is one of the women leading Languedoc wine making renaissance. Every wine she creates has a distinctive personality, shaped by the wild herbs of the garrigue and her own care and passion. She prefers old, small-scale vineyards with low yields and rare grape varieties. She joyfully embraces the challenge of farming these vineyards, including working with narrow, "horse-width" rows from a time before the modern tractor existed.
