The winemaker at Domaine Sainte Cécile du Parc, Christine Mouton Bertoli, is a very fine winemaker whose wines are celebrated throughout the region. She and her husband bought this domaine 15 years ago, reinvigorated the vineyards, built a first class winemaking cave, became certified organic right away and it has been bliss for the rest of us ever since. The domaine is named for the patron saint of music, hence the name of this cuvée: Sonatina. This is the iconic wine of the estate, made from hand-harvested 35 year old Syrah and Cinsault grapevines, then aged 12 months in both small and large ‘demi-muids’ (oak barrels). Sonatina’s rich texture is full of ripe cherries, mocha and an edge of fennel and wild herbs balanced with just the right acidity to keep it interesting. It is a delicious wine now and can also be aged for 4-8 years.
